Fitz-what?

Consider the following scenario:

- A Georgian house in one of the more desirable parts of central London. High ceilings, wooden floorboards, potted palms in the conservatory. Round the corner from Virginia Woolf in fact.
- Owned by a former hot-shot banker and occasional academic who has turned to helping people who are seeking refugee status in the UK after being tortured in their home country. In particular, GLBT people who are seeking refugee status in the UK after being tortured in their home country.
- Run as a sort of German post-70s WG with two existing tenants (one a transsexual teenage college student and drummer from Uganda; the other was asleep).
- Various people drifting in and out, eating, making tea, and having conversations ranging from pre-British rule Indian history via places to hang out in Brixton, via Gordon Brown, to broadband internet providers. In English, French, German and Arabic. And occasional bits of Luganda and Kurdish.
- The house being, unsurprisingly, a tip. The kitchen needs a good scrubbing (but is well stocked).

If I want, I can move in. Am I totally crazy to be kind of enchanted by the idea?

No, that sounds like a good place to me...

I think it could be a very interesting place to live. (As long as you get your own room.)

Assuming it would work for you, that sounds amazing!

Well, I suppose it depends on where in Central London it is. And whether you're ready to scrub the kitchen yourself. I'm not a neatness freak, unfortunately, so my opinion doesn't really count on that.

We must get together at some point. If you're free on Sunday, there's an interesting little gathering in East London. HWMBO and I are going to that, we think.

Why not indeed... thing is, the typical houseshares here ("25 y.o. professional male (or female) working in finance on their first mortgage") aren't really what i'd fit in with well.

OK, let me name you guardian of my sanity in matters of moving.

Oh, yes... an ok-sized room with a bed, lots of bookcases, a bulky wardrobe and space for a small desk. And a fireplace and stuff. Also, enough bathrooms (2), and perks like a commute reduced by nearly half. And the British Museum, Oxford Street, several large parks, and even Camden Town in walking distance.

Innit?! Good to see I'm not alone thinking that.

Fitzrovia. Throw a stone down BT Tower and move 50m north.

I'm not a neatness freak either, but neat housemates would keep me in line. On the other hand I guess it could be worse -- it's not as if everything was strewn with dirty crockery or clothes.

An yes we must indeed. I lost my mobile phone and changed numbers ... will try to email you the new one (or re-email me yours?). I'm up for anything on Sunday -- the link is broken, though, so what and where and when?

I do apologise; it's my memory that is broken, not the link. It's actually here.

Email your phone number to chrishansenhome at btinternet dot com and then we can reconnect.

Well it *is* pretty Hippie. As for the Goth part, as I said, walking distance to Camden Town (and the Intrepid Fox of course).

Oh, I forgot: The living room chandelier is run on real candles.

Or at least we're insane in the same way, which should count for something ;)
